Located in the heart of Manhattan, Campos Plaza II is a critical initiative funded by the New York City Housing Authority’s Recovery and Resilience Program. This project is a forward-looking effort to safeguard public housing infrastructure against the growing threat of extreme weather events and flooding.
Theproject
As part of this comprehensive resilience upgrade, two residential buildings at Campos Plaza II received major structural and systems improvements to enhance durability, safety, and continuity of services during emergencies. To protect against flood risks, perimeter flood barriers were installed, and exterior walls were reinforced with high-strength carbon fiber systems. A durable stucco finish was applied to provide both protection and a clean, modern aesthetic.
Thedevelopment
Electrical infrastructure was completely overhauled to meet FEMA flood elevation requirements. New electrical rooms were elevated above base flood levels and equipped with full-capacity emergency generators to ensure uninterrupted power in the event of an outage. In addition, a new MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) annex was constructed on the roof of Building 3, safely above the flood zone, to house the automatic transfer switches (ATS) and distribution panels necessary to power and manage critical building systems.
The project also included the complete replacement of roofing systems on both buildings, further contributing to long-term resilience and energy efficiency.
Theresult
Campos Plaza II now stands better prepared for the future, with a robust, code-compliant infrastructure designed to protect residents, preserve essential services, and ensure operational continuity through any storm.
